Frankfurt, Malmö, Gothenburg and Copenhagen, they each have their profile and there are always students from Fatamorgana, who can tell what they are doing and will help you if you should want to pay them visit.

At the School of Journalism in Aarhus it is always students from Fatamorgana that gets the most atraktive internships and at the Film School's documentary line a third of the students are from Fatamorgana. In New York they love Fatamorgana students because they better than other international students dare criticize, experiment and create debate.

Mixing documentary and visual art as we do on Fatamorgana gives both documentarists and artists a wider view, you become more qualified for both analysis, composition and narrative when you have been a student at Fatamorgana.

There is no definite technique training but image criticism and guidance. It is mainly about expressions, attitude, meaning and context and less about technical skills. When you are admitted as a student it is expected that you can independently produce images but not that your images are technically perfect.

In the four months course you get five different guest teachers all are experienced professionals, and they make assignments that you must solve.
Every week there are guests visiting from all photography fields, weekly exhibition visits with introdukton and debate, there is portefolio review by experts, where you present what you have made and the course ends with an exhibition of the latest delevery.
Twenty students are at the school, 7-8 in the second semester.

The training is mandatory, that is, all the students are present, when there is a review, joint or events. The school work is demanding, it is expected that you as a student at the school is working full-time with tasks and projects, and have no other work.
You can choose between four-month course or one-year course in which you on the 2nd semester goes on a project team.
You then make your assignments yourself and have greater freedom when it comes to delivery.

All students have a key to the school, you can always lock in and use study, computers and printer and other equipment because on Fatamorgana there is a student management. All practical tasks performed by students.
Each one has his remit and every Monday all students discus what can be done to make it all work optimally.
Morten Bo is the school principal and head teacher. He sets the framework, chooses the students make assignments and book guests and guest teachers, but is only teacher half the time, the rest of the time there are guest teachers.
It costs money to attend classes, for Fatamorgana is a private school that is funded by the municipality, but the bulk of the costs are the students participation fee. DKK 27.500.- for four months, DKK 55.000.- for one year consisting of both a autumn and a spring course and access to the school in January and June.

The school bought in 2015 its own apartment Bispevej 25A 2.tv. a studio with lots of light and views of Copenhagen. A large room only divided by shelves and curtains. There is a kitchen with dining area, lounge corner, teaching boards, computers, scanners, printers, study library, workshop and guest room with a spiral staircase. Around a palm tree in the middle of the skylight joint meetings are held. The apartment has a courtyard with space to stay outdoors when the weather permits.

In order to get grants from the City of Copenhagen under the information law school must be organized as an association with a participant representative elected at the annual election meeting. Other Board members are Bjørn Nørgaard, Tove Kurtzweil, Henrik Saxgren, Trine Søndergaard and Morten Bo. Christer Strömholm was from inception until his death in 2002 the protector of the school. In his spirit the scool is operated by the school's founder in 1989, Morten Bo.

In a pilot project on Samsø Folkehøjskole 1988 a Regulation was hastily written down and turned up the first night, and it has since been applied also for Fatamorgana.

- Motivation is the driving force. Only work arising out of desire has value.
- Creative development is a duty. Engagement is a commitment and challenge a requirement.
- Praise and criticism are truisms. All are outspoken and receptive.
- Unconditional openness prevails. Simmering discontent hidden envy or secrecy neither of students nor from teachers.
- Everyone has the right to a personal interview. Confidentiality and individual considerations must be evaluated highly.
- The school's operation is based on student management. All practical tasks are performed by the students themselves.
- The school is open day and night. Students have a right to work anytime and therefore have a duty to keep the school locked exept for school hours.
- If Fata regulations despite repeated warnings are not taken seriously, a pupil of the leader can be expelled from school.

It is a great advantage when you have to educate, to have many useful contacts with photographers and artists, who themselves for not so many years ago has studied on Fatamorgana, and later gained experience in how best to use what they have learned.

As a student you will on a 16-week course be taught by over 25 different people, you always can contact if you need to. Often they choose when they need an assistant, one of the students they have taught at Fatamorgana.

On this website you will find information about the school and lots of pictures.

Lutter trumf is a list of the best photos from the best projects, and there are student pages with the individual student pictures. Here is a chronological review of the mirage of art history distributed in Articles Creating School (1989-99)   Fata Time and Spirit (1999-2007) and the World on the head (2007-2014) richly illustrated.

There are selections of mails sent to school, speeches to students, but most importantly perhaps are Comments in danish where Morten Bo is commenting images sent to school. He responds personally to all inquiries and takes half an hour's conversation, if someone needs before sending the application for admission.
